River Expeditions Facilities

Our headquarters is conveniently located just minutes from the New River Gorge National Park and just four miles south of the famed New River Gorge Bridge. River Expeditions basecamp is located near restaurants and shops, yet far enough off the beaten path that you’re secluded from the sights and sounds of the outside world, featuring modern, state-of-the-art facilities and amenities. You can choose from an array of camping and lodging options on-site; shop or dine with friends; hold a small meeting; and enjoy many recreational pursuits off the river, from a party at The Red Dog River Saloon to volleyball, horseshoes or cornhole games. New and upgraded facilities and amenities make your stay with us comfortable, pleasant and memorable.

Basecamp Lodging

Features spacious wooded, festive and quiet camping areas complete with picnic tables and fire rings. Coming soon is additional primitive camping, so you can really get back to nature on your trip. Within the campground, you are within easy walking distance to our brand new showerhouse and restrooms, dining area, pool and hot tub, outfitters store, Red Dog River Saloon, Fire Creek Lodge and Conference Center and sundries store. You’ll be impressed with our top notch facilities, designed with your convenience and comfort in mind and always kept clean and tidy.

Rustic Cabins

These rustic cabins provide a cozy shelter from the elements plus the comfort of a soft place to bed down at night. Our rustic cabins feature six bunks with double-size mattresses, electricity, lights and porch. You supply pillows, sleeping bags or linens and blankets. Availability is limited so reserve your rustic cabin in advance.

Tents on Platforms

Available for those who want to skip packing a tent, setting it up, and tearing it down at the end of the trip, this option is for you! We've done the work for you. Our large, four-person tents are set up on wooden platforms and covered by a tarp roof to protect you from the elements. They come equipped with four single-size foam mattresses - the only gear you will need to bring is your sleeping bag or bedding, and pillow.

RV Sites

Our all new RV Park features six brand new sites, complete with water and electric hook ups. There is even an onsite dump station for your convenience. RV Sites also have a fire ring and picnic table, located just behind the showerhouse.

Pets

Pets are welcome at River Expeditions, provided that they do not disturb other guests and are kept on a leash at all times. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, so we can maintain our pet-friendly status. We can even arrange for a dog-sitter, upon request.

Outfitters Store

Offers a large selection of t-shirts, hats, and other souvenirs, in addition to quality outdoor apparel and footwear. You can even purchase waterproof cameras, sunglasses or other little extras for your trip. Trip check-in is located here, as well as rental gear reservation.

Fire Creek Lodge and Conference Center

This unique amenity offers a cozy, family friendly space to enjoy before or after your trip. The lodge features comfy sofas and sitting areas for reading, watching TV or even your trip DVD. There's also a convenient fully wireless work area. You'll find board games, puzzles, books, pool tables, plus a video arcade for the kids. Enjoy a relaxing, restorative massage by a licensed therapist - call our reservation office to schedule an appointment.

Planning a group function? Upstairs is our large meeting area which seats up to 50 people. Groups can access this space for meetings, parties, training, worship services, etc. You can also reserve a party by the pool. Blend business and pleasure to make the most of your meeting. We can bring in a specialized facilitator or even cater your function upon request. To reserve this space, please contact our reservation office.

Campstore

The campstore doubles as the Welcome Center and check in for camping at River Expeditions. Here you'll find a variety of camping essentials like firewood, ice, and charcoal, plus other snacks and sundries. We also stock toiletries or any last minute items you may have forgotten. We even stock candy bars and energy drinks if you have a craving.

Dining Area

Enjoy a sumptuous, cooked to order dinner featuring your choice of steak, chicken, fish or vegetarian entrée. Special events weekends include a BBQ cookout with all the trimmings. Dine in air-conditioned comfort as you share a meal with family and friends. Our complimentary continental breakfast is served here each morning and now features fresh fruit, English muffins and assorted jellies. Full, hot breakfast is available upon request – call for details and pricing.

Outdoor Pool & Hot Tub

River Expeditions is the only outfitter in the area to offer these cool amenities. Our guests can swim and play in the large outdoor pool or soak sore muscles in the 18-person hot tub. You’ll love this option on hot summer days or cool autumn evenings!

Red Dog River Saloon™

This iconic gathering place for River Expeditions guests and friends sets the standard in après rafting entertainment. Following your day on the river, you can enjoy a cold beverage while you watch your trip video and relax with friends. At night the Red Dog comes alive featuring top musicians and bands each weekend, plus themed events, parties and sportscasts throughout the season. The casual atmosphere makes everyone feel welcome. The nightlife will test your endurance as much as the river!
