Adventure Class River Rafting in West Virginia

This category of trips is more challenging than Family Class trips and characterized by alternating pools and drops creating big Class III – V rapids. Discover classic whitewater and action packed adventures set in pristine wilderness gorges. This trip is for beginners and experienced rafters alike.

Adventure Class trips offered by River Expeditions include the Lower New River (our most popular rafting adventure), the Summer Gauley and the Lower Gauley River in the fall. These trips are perfect for first time rafters, age 12 and up. These trips are a great next step from the Upper New River. These fun adventures provide the necessary skill training and experience required before moving on to bigger whitewater like the powerful, demanding Upper Gauley River.

Commonly referred to as 'The Grand Canyon of the East', this rafting trip blends the elements of history, culture and scenic beauty to create the classic whitewater adventure. You'll even end this trip beneath the world famous New River Gorge Bridge. The Lower New River Gorge alternates from Class II - V rapids to pools, allowing paddlers a break between the action. This trip is appropriate for beginners (age 12 and up), as well as experienced paddlers. And since no two trips are ever the same, each day and each experience is new, different and exciting.

Cool yourself in the sparkling waters on the Summer Gauley trip and awaken your sense of adventure and spontaneity. Experience the Gauley River from an entirely new perspective in the summer and marvel at the splendor of nature. Here you'll discover challenging whitewater runs as River Expeditions offers the use of rafts and/or duckies on this scenic adventure.

Indulge your passion for adventure - the Lower Gauley River in the Fall is the most challenging trip we offer for beginners. This one of a kind adventure combines exhilarating rapids with magnificent scenery from start to finish. Crisp, sparkling water morphs into giant rapids around each bend of the rugged canyon. This trip is often the next step after rafting the Lower New River Gorge or Summer Gauley River, although it’s great for adventurous beginners (age 12 and up). The Lower Gauley is the perfect prelude to the intense Upper Gauley.

Whitewater Season Opener

Here it is two days after Christmas and I am already pumped up about the up coming rafting season. I′m going to book my September trip on the upper gauley in a few minutes and will be booking a trip for sometime in July when I know the dates. Whoever reads this tesimonial page should listen to what everyone says and raft with River Expeditions they will not be let down.
