High Adventure / Small Raft Options Although each river trip is an exciting and challenging expedition, there are those who seek an even higher level of adventure. With them in mind, River Expeditions offers the option of upgrading to a smaller raft, intended to push the limits of our sport. This option is for those who have several river descents under their belt and are looking for the next step in excitement.
Smaller rafts provide higher performance and increased maneuverability. This aggressive approach is for experienced, enthusiastic paddlers who want to see the river from a completely different perspective. On the Gauley River, this trip is recommended for those over the age of 18, with prior class V+ rafting experience, excellent health, and the ability to calmly respond to adverse and difficult whitewater situations.
In some cases, families or small groups who want to experience the river in a more personal setting may opt for a smaller raft, without the added adventure. When reserving a small raft, please specify whether you want a more challenging ride or simply prefer to maintain closeness with those in your party.
